Kind of? At least, I thought it would be easier to hide my powers at college since nobody would know me there.
[It wasn't, since he did end up making headlines when he saved a professor from an accident. Though on the plus side, that was where he first became roommates with Jimmy and actually made a friend for the first time in years.]
It was a lot to deal with at first, yeah. Though I guess someone who's lived in the city their whole life would also find the country overwhelming in its own way.
All that open space can probably be a little too much to handle for some people.
[Though being raised on a farm, Clark is pretty used to it.]
Well...I've got super-strength, super-speed, flight, heat vision, super-hearing, and maybe x-ray vision? And I guess I'm also bulletproof. I might be able to do other things, but I don't know yet.
[ that's a grocery list of powers, maybe the question should've been what he can't do. ]
huh. that's nice. the acronyms knock on your door yet, then? cia, fbi, dod, so on. those guys. you'd be a really valuable get if you've gotten on their radar.
[ which isn't good news for anyone, take it from him. ]
No, not really. Until recently, I tried to hide my powers as much as possible.
I did have a few run-ins with some people from the military, but...they didn't really go well.
[Mainly because they think he's a living weapon sent to spearhead an alien invasion and they tried to torture a confession out of him. Which he'd rather not think about, because he's secretly afraid they could be right.]
[ all things considered, a few run-ins that have clearly been survived isn't too bad. worse is being in a locked cell with no windows, maybe. or being left underwater, deep in the ocean, with no way out. he knows a thing or two about being seen only as a weapon, and it takes all types to look after a weapon properly.
fun story, people rarely do. ]
if you aren't hurting anyone, they should just let you be. people are dangerous on their own without having superpowers. if you're trying to live peacefully, there's no reason to get on your ass about being different.
Hurting anyone is the last thing I ever want to do.
[Being kidnapped and tortured by Task Force X didn't hurt Clark as much as being shown what happened over twenty years ago, when someone from his planet showed up and caused all that destruction...and in the middle of it all, the ship his parents found him in arriving through the same portal as that stranger. Lois and Jimmy have assured him that he couldn't possibly be a weapon, but that hasn't stopped him from having nightmares about it.]
I really do just want to help. But some people aren't convinced about that.

[ it makes him think of getting lost, being left alone and left behind. open fields are a nightmare; how do you defend from an open field? ]
you said powers.
what can you do?
